Our mission is to use sustainable building materials and practices combined with the quality of old world craftsmanship to create clean distinctive spaces. We build and remodel homes our customers will enjoy for a lifetime. We listen to our customers,  respond to their needs, and treat them honestly and courteously.

Our History

Co-founders Greg and Rose Christianson were drawn to Corvallis from Dillingham, Alaska, and moved in 1986. The promise of a temperate climate and a livable community did not disappoint. Greg obtained his contractor’s license and opened G. Christianson Construction the same year. Greg put a focus on hiring experts; a focus that pushes our staff today. In 2015, Greg stepped down to Vice President when his son, Carl, purchased the company. Greg retired at the end of 2015, leaving a strong team that holds to the same vision Greg established decades ago – to build sustainable homes of good quality, listen to our customers, respond to their needs, and treat them honestly and courteously.

A Family Owned Company with Family Values

G. Christianson Construction is a second-generation, family-owned company. We treat our employees like family because we believe every small business should operate that way.  We offer our employees competitive salaries and extensive benefits, including health insurance, 401(k) contributions, and paid vacation. We find the cost of having these benefits is matched with loyal, knowledgeable employees who bring added value to our team and to our clients.

Our Community Commitments

When you hire G. Christianson Construction, part of your investment goes directly back into the Corvallis community. Our company puts a focus on hiring local subcontractors and purchasing from local suppliers whenever possible. We donate materials that are in good condition to the local Habitat for Humanity, and our staff participated in building structures for the Jackson Youth Shelter, Greenbelt Land Trust, the local Restore and Corvallis Audubon Society. Additionally, we contribute to a number of non-profit organizations, including the Boys and Girls Club and KLCC public radio. Carl Christianson, President, serves on the board for Benton County Habitat for Humanity.

Where we work

We typically work in and around Corvallis, Philomath, and Albany. By special request, we sometimes travel farther.

About our Staff

Carl Christianson, President and Superintendent; Certified Passive House Builder

Carl grew up in Corvallis and is a graduate of Crescent Valley High. He graduated with honors from Oregon State University, and put his degree in Construction Engineering Management to work at Hoffman Construction. During his five year tenure, Carl gained experience building skyscrapers in Bellevue, two hospitals in rural Washington, and data centers in Oregon. Carl became LEED-AP certified in 2007, which is a professional standard recognizing commitment to environmentally responsible, high-performance building. Carl’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond his professional life. In 2015, Carl became Passive House certified before breaking ground on his personal home – the first Passive House to be built in Corvallis. Carl and his wife, Julie, are the parents of two young children and enjoy hiking, backpacking, and dancing – whenever they get the opportunity!

Steve Schoonover, Superintendent; Certified Sustainable Home Professional

Greg and Rose first met Steve in 1986 when he poured the concrete for their first home in Corvallis. After working as a subcontractor for seven years, Greg asked Steve to join the growing G. Christianson team. Greg was impressed with Steve’s meticulous attention to detail – a trait that carried him into a position as Superintendent in 2008. “I enjoy the variety of projects I get to work on, and the variety of individuals I get to meet and work with,” he says. Steve enjoys camping, snowboarding, horses, and spending time with his family. He has made many treks to the Brazilian Amazon basin and, together with his family, is actively involved with mission work at Faith Christian Fellowship.

Tanner Wood, Superintendent; Certified Passive House Builder and BPI Certified

Tanner was born and raised in Philomath, OR and attended Philomath High School and Oregon State University. What started out as a pursuit to become a Civil Engineer became Tanner’s real1-1-Tannerization of a passion to have a hands-on career. He started working in construction in 1996 and has learned the ins and outs of solid building practices. Tanner’s strong problem-solving skills are a huge asset to the G. Christianson team. He has always been one to figure out how things work – from the process of building a house to diagnosing a malfunctioning computer system. Tanner became a Superintendent in 2014 after working as a Carpenter at G. Christianson for 8 years. He enjoys getting to see the project “from start to finish.” When you call our office, the Superintendent who consults you on your project is the one to create the contract, and to see your project through to completion. “I enjoy getting to see people’s dreams become a reality,” he says. At home, Tanner and his wife, Kim, stay busy camping and playing with their two young boys.
