Dave and Valerie’s Kitchen
One of the charms of this Corvallis kitchen is the new south-facing windows over the sink that fill the room with light and look out at the lovely Japanese garden. The open design was created by removing the wall into the dining room and reworking the existing skylight and roof framing. The new floor plan, which provides more cooking and entertaining space, was part of a larger remodel and addition to the east wing of the house.
One unique feature is the custom Douglas fir cabinets. Douglas fir is a sustainable tree choice, native to Oregon. To contrast with the light Douglas fir, the owner chose solid Ipe hardwood floors. Ipe is prized for its durability because it is harder than hickory or oak. The countertop is bull-nosed slate tile, and the dishwasher is raised for easier access. Finally, we created an extraordinary pantry and matching decorative siding from reclaimed roof decking that was torched to create a distressed look.
Tim and Lisa’s Kitchen
The most distinctive feature of this completely remodeled Corvallis kitchen is the custom-built cherry island with a cantilevered granite countertop. The island contrasts with the custom white shaker cabinetry. To widen the room by two feet, the cabinets were recessed into the wall adjoining the garage.
Deborah Kadas designed this kitchen with a distinctive flair that includes a country-style cast iron sink mounted with the front apron exposed. The new Wolf commercial style range includes an articulating pot-fill faucet. The pattern of the subway tile backsplash, based on the New York Subway system, works well in both older and contemporary homes due to its classic appeal.
This kitchen was part of a larger remodeling project. New hardwood floors were installed in the kitchen, living room, and dining room to enhance the great-room effect. The original space had low 8-foot ceilings. With our engineer’s help, we were able to modify the existing roof structure to create a vaulted ceiling that visually doubles the space and creates a “wow” factor. Wood ceiling paneling in the kitchen and dining room add texture and warmth, and two new skylights provide significantly more natural light to the space. We also relocated and enlarged two windows to open up the space and provide scenic views of the back and side yards.

Doris and Paul’s Kitchen
The most striking feature of this remodeled Corvallis kitchen is how much larger it seems. The first step was removing the outdated translucent ceiling light panels to raise the ceiling height back to eight feet. A second ceiling beam was added to visually bracket the range and suspended Venmar range hood. Then we enlarged the windows and added a glass patio door. We replaced the worn cabinets with custom beech cabinets and expanded the kitchen by relocating the peninsula.
A ceramic tile backsplash was installed on the diagonal above the new Silestone countertop. After the original vinyl floors were removed by an asbestos abatement subcontractor, we installed red oak hardwood flooring that extends into the entry, where it joins new tile accent floors at the two entry doors. A new aluminum maintenance-free metal deck and cable hand rail provides outside living space.
Bob and Lori’s Kitchen
This North Corvallis house has quite a history with our company. We not only built the original house, but also added onto it two different times. When the new owner wanted a more open kitchen, our designer offered some great ideas. First, we removed the wall between the kitchen and dining room. Next, we built custom cabinetry designed to fit the homeowner’s needs, added an island for efficient meal preparation, and installed commercial-grade Viking appliances.
To complete the look, we installed granite countertops and a 24” ceramic tile floor that extends into the breakfast nook. To aesthetically connect the kitchen and dining room, we used the same granite for the window sills.
