Dave and Valerie’s Kitchen
One of the charms of this Corvallis kitchen is the large windows over the sink that fills the room with light. The open design for this kitchen was created by demolishing the floors, cabinets, countertops, appliances and wall into the dining room. This allowed us to re-arrange cabinets to provide more cooking and entertaining space. New larger replacement wood windows were installed in the south facing wall so you can now look out over their lovely Japanese garden. Our team reworked the existing skylight and roof framing to open up the room.
One unique feature is the custom Douglas fir wood cabinets. Douglas fir is a sustainable tree choice, native to Oregon. We built an extraordinary pantry cabinet out of reclaimed roof decking and torched it to give its distressed appearance. We raised the dishwasher to allow for easier loading and unloading. The countertop was made out of bull-nosed slate tile. To contrast with the light colors of Douglas fir, the owner chose solid Ipe hardwood floors. Ipe is prized for its durability since it is substantially harder than hickory or oak. We also reclaimed some of the roof decking and torched it to use for decorative siding. This kitchen was part of a larger remodel and addition on the east wing of the house.
Tim and Lisa’s Kitchen
The most distinctive feature of this completely remodeled Corvallis kitchen is the custom-built cherry island with a cantilevered granite countertop. The island contrasts with the custom white shaker cabinetry. To widen the room by two feet, the cabinets were recessed into the wall adjoining the garage.
Deborah Kadas designed this kitchen with a distinctive flair that includes a country-style cast iron sink mounted with the front apron exposed. The new Wolf commercial style range includes an articulating pot-fill faucet. The pattern of the subway tile backsplash, based on the New York Subway system, works well in both older and contemporary homes due to its classic appeal.
This kitchen was part of a larger remodeling project. New hardwood floors were installed in the kitchen, living room, and dining room to enhance the great-room effect. The original space had low 8-foot ceilings. With our engineer’s help, we were able to modify the existing roof structure to create a vaulted ceiling that visually doubles the space and creates a “wow” factor. Wood ceiling paneling in the kitchen and dining room add texture and warmth, and two new skylights provide significantly more natural light to the space. We also relocated and enlarged two windows to open up the space and provide scenic views of the back and side yards.

Doris and Paul’s Kitchen
The most striking feature of this remodeled Corvallis kitchen was how much larger the kitchen feels after the remodel was completed. The first step was to remove the 1970’s era translucent ceiling light panels to allow us to raise the ceiling height back to eight feet. Then we enlarged the windows to increase daylight from the northern exposure and added a glass patio door. We replaced the worn kitchen cabinets with custom beech cabinets that extend further into the breakfast nook. This allowed us to expand the kitchen by relocating the peninsula.
A ceramic tile backsplash was installed on the diagonal above the Silestone kitchen countertop. A second ceiling beam was added to the left of the kitchen range to bracket in the range and hood. Several hood choices were studied before the owner settled on the final suspended Venmar range hood. The original vinyl floors were removed (by an asbestos abatement subcontractor) and new select grade red oak hardwood flooring was installed through the kitchen and into the entry. We installed tile accent floors inside the two entry doors. A new aluminum maintenance free metal deck and cable hand rail was installed as the final touch.
Bob and Lori’s Kitchen
This North Corvallis house has quite a history with our company. We not only built the original house and kitchen (for a different owner), but added onto it two different times. When the new owner came to us with the desire to open up the kitchen, our designer offered some great ideas. The first item was to remove the wall separating the dining room from the kitchen. Next we built custom cabinetry to fit the homeowner’s needs. Then we ordered and installed commercial grade Viking appliances. An island was added for easy meal preparation, and topped with granite countertops. We also added new granite window sills to aesthetically connect the dining room to the kitchen. Finally, we installed a new floor in the kitchen and breakfast nook with 24” ceramic tile.
