Basement Build-out
Finishing or updating your basement is a great way to add value to your property and expand your living space. We can create a recreation room, additional bedroom, new bathroom, wine cellar, workshop, spa, exercise room, a mother-in-law apartment, or some other unique space. Let your imagination run wild. The transformation will convert a bare, unfinished space into a beautiful, well lit, warm area using the latest designs and materials.
Kara and Mario’s Basement Remodel
Kara and Mario started with an unfinished daylight basement. Like many basements, this one was initially cold and uninviting. We solved that problem by installing an energy efficient mini split ductless heating system and adding recessed spot lighting. The floor system is a floating hardwood floor set over a resilient insulating pad. This remodel also entailed reworking the below-floor plumbing and concealing the overhead heating ducts.
One of the challenges was finding a kitchen layout that would work. The final design uses open shelving to provide visual spaciousness. The granite countertops and stainless steel appliances give the space added elegance.
Steve and Vera’s Basement Recreation Room
This high-end custom project at the Oregon coast began as an unfinished basement. We built new walls, added plumbing, installed wainscoting, installed a stereo system, and fabricated a custom wet bar. The focal point of the room is the large circular art piece. We stained the new woodwork to match it. The owner found a antique wood door that fit the design, and we custom built a second distressed door to match it. Both doors have inset glass artwork. The door to the left of the large art piece leads to the new walk-in wine cellar with racks for more than 1000 bottles of wine. Our carpenters built a custom light valance from ipe wood flooring around the perimeter of the room and installed recessed MR-16 halogen spot lighting to accent the art.

Julie’s Basement Apartment
This Corvallis daylight basement was transformed into a separate living quarters with a living room, kitchen, bedroom, and office. A number of structural modifications were necessary, including removing concrete walls, widening passage ways, and strengthening beams. After the concrete floor was temporarily opened for plumbing modifications, a floating engineered wood floor was installed over the concrete slab.
There was an existing masonry fireplace in what is now the living room. We covered it with sculpted ceramic tile whose texture adds a 3-dimensional aspect to the surface. New custom entertainment cabinets were installed next to the fireplace. Julie wanted to take advantage of the home’s setting, so we replaced the windows to expand her view of Corvallis. In the bedroom, we cut through the foundation to create a fire escape window and window well, complete with a built-in ladder up to ground level and a safety glass guardrail.
