In-Law Suites & Additions
Why Build an In-Law Suite?
An in-law suite is perfect for providing a space that is private and independent. These additions are not only great for in-laws but they can also be used as a home office space, temporary living for older children, and for out-of-town guests. They also help with a resale value on your home, if you so choose to sell. This page features effective ideas to revamp your current space to support guests and in-laws through reconfigured space planning or additions.
This old basement had a terrible layout and used it's space poorly. We transformed it into a fully functioning living space with a kitchen, dining room, living room, bathroom/laundry room, and bedroom. It can now be used for guests or in-laws. We also widened the hallway to the bedroom and bathroom for easier accessibility.
Additions can be concerning because it is important that any changes will stay true to the integrity of your home. With G. Christianson, you won't have to worry because any new addition will not only provide more space but look as though it has always been there.
A moveable island is a great option to consider for accessibility in your suite. Because this island is not fixed in place, it can be moved temporarily or permanently. You may also even consider removing an island completely. This is a great conversation to have with our designers, to discuss what will fit your needs.
Curbless showers have become a popular option not just because of accessibility restrictions, but also because of early morning tripping hazards and the ease of cleaning. This is perfect for a space intended for in-law or guest use. Check out more information about accessibility and aging in place designs in the link below.
