Staying True to the Historic Character of the Home
Time and Oregon weather had taken their toll on the home, so Deb hired us to restore her porch. We replaced the rot in the columns, the concrete work, the steps and walkways, and reinforced the home for earthquakes while keeping the historic character of the home in mind as we worked with Deb Kadas, who designed this porch.
“Anytime we work with historic projects, we find unique challenges. We use our experience and creativity to find a path to the perfect finish”
Steve Schoonover, Superintendent, G. Christianson Construction
PROJECT DETAILS
Columns and Railings
Keeping with the period of the house and surrounding historic neighborhood, we re-built the dream wrap-around porch that anyone would enjoy a cup of coffee on.
Hard Trowel Concrete Porch
We worked with Deb Kadas, Designer, to create mockup samples of the various possible finishes for concrete work and she selected this burnished flat trowel finish to recreate the historic texture of the original porch. We also poured both steps and wall caps to match the finish of the original porch.

What our Clients are Saying
“We found that G. Christianson has a focus on quality in every detail. This made them very easy to work with and has resulted in a beautiful remodel of the master suite in our home. Tony, the carpenter, in particular made sure every detail he worked with was perfect and made sure the site was cleaned up every day, even when the mess was left by a third party contractor. Thanks to all the team at G. Christianson for the excellent work.”

“We live in an historic district and Elizabeth did a great job preparing a design which complements our house. She facilitated a smooth historic preservation permit approval. Building a carpentry shop raises a number of non-standard construction issues. Carl patiently answered our many questions. His knowledge of energy efficiency practices was very helpful. Ron, who runs the cabinet shop, provided invaluable insights regarding layout, power needs, etc. Ben and the entire G. Christianson Construction crew were reliable, on time, and hardworking. It was a pleasure to work with Carl, Elizabeth, Ben and the rest of the team. The end result is a beautiful and functional shop – a dream come true. ”

See the Historic-Inspired Outbuilding project“The client greatly appreciated the clear and detailed estimate and the professionalism shown in it. In addition, the inclusion of a project completion timeline, and one that seems reasonably rapid, was well received by the client. While your proposal was higher than the other bid received, the thoroughness and items mentioned above, provided the client with confidence that there is a reasonable reason for the higher price. The clients are seriously considering your bid as they see a lot of benefits to working with a company of your size, experience, and thoroughness.”
