Modern Grey Bath Remodel in a Tight Space
This compact modern bathroom remodel features intentionally placed colors, patterns, materials, and finishes to perfectly execute the homeowner’s style. In addition to a distaste for the bathroom’s existing brown color scheme, there was an extremely large and deep soaking tub with a shower combo that had been installed by a previous owner which made accessibility extremely difficult for these new homeowners to use the shower. The homeowners expressed a love for modern, contemporary, and sleek design styles with strong preferences for grey and slate tones and a dislike of brown tones and ornate patterns. In addition, Interior Designer Elizabeth noticed that they would get excited when discussing whimsical features. The final bathroom design involved replacing the bath vanity, toilet, flooring, and removing the obtrusive tub to create an easy-access tile shower with a sliding shower glass barn door. The existing unique bathroom layout was a narrow room open to the Primary Bedroom with no door and contained all fixtures on the interior wall facing away from the Primary Bedroom entrance. We utilized a floating vanity to give the illusion of a wider bathroom and the open space below the cabinet makes it easier to round the corner to enter the bathroom without running into the cabinet. To create a bathroom design that expressed the homeowner’s style of modern, grey, and whimsy, Interior Designer Elizabeth proposed a grey mosaic tile that formed a whimsical pattern via the grout lines, and maintained the desired modern feel by having this mosaic tile installed over the entirety of the back wall with large format tiles of the same color/collection installed on the side walls. The cool tones of the grey tile shower and charcoal tile floor are balanced with the warmth of a natural rift white oak vanity and recessed medicine cabinet mirror to create this luxurious modern bathroom.
“With our general idea of what we wanted in a remodel, they brought invaluable help with design and planning. They carried out the plan with incredible attention to detail and skill.”

Project Details
Floating Vanity
The floating vanity is used in this bathroom design to increased the visual width of this compact bathroom. The open cubbies on the bottom of the cabinet adds to the openness of the bath entrance, while providing additional storage space. Rift sawn white oak was the perfect material selection to add a modern warmth to the bath color scheme. We installed toe kick lighting below the vanity to provide a soft glow in the evenings.
Lighted Shower Niche
A wide shower niche was installed on the back wall to provide plentiful shower storage, and a lighted niche creates a focal point that elongates the bathroom and beautifully accentuates the beloved mosaic tile.
Linear Drain
The shower width was framed to perfectly fit this 36-inch wide linear drain so that no relief cuts in the tile would be necessary to obtain proper shower floor drainage. This minimized the necessary grout joints for improved cleanability and provided a streamlined modern look. The playful pattern for the linear drain adds to the whimsical style of this bathroom.
Shower Valve Placement
The shower valves were intentionally placed on the wall near the shower entrance, allowing the shower to be turned on without requiring the user to enter the shower and risk getting wet.

Slide the green circle left and right to see the cabinet open & closed.
Recessed Medicine Cabinet Mirror
A white oak mirror medicine cabinet matching the vanity was installed above the sink to provide a tucked-away space for storing countertop bath accessories.
Sustainable Materials & Production
The floating vanity was built using local materials sourced within 500 miles of the project site and was built in a Cabinet Shop that runs almost entirely off solar power. The construction of this bathroom remodel involved the use of electric vehicles to transport materials and crew members to and from the job site, minimizing the carbon emissions that this project outputted to the environment.

See the project“We were beyond impressed with the level of professionalism, communication, execution, and customer service from the entire G. Christianson team. Our design meetings were a lot of fun and never felt stressful. In fact, the entire process never felt stressful. When it came time for their team to start construction, everyone was so professional and so nice and always made it a point to make sure we were satisfied. Execution was flawless. There weren’t any surprises, and the cost was exactly what we were told at the beginning. We especially loved the cabinet team, and got to know them well. Additionally, I know that if we were ever to encounter an issue in the future, I can always call the team and know it’ll be taken care of.”
