Advanced Framing

Carl Christianson

Our carpenters use advanced framing techniques reduce the amount of wood used in construction and increase the amount of insulation. These techniques were created by structural engineers in the 1970’s. By following the advanced framing techniques included in the Oregon building code, we are providing the required amount of strength in your home and saving wood and energy. At the Journal of Light Construction Live conference in Portland, I attended a class on advanced framing and was reminded of the benefits.

We find it quite remarkable that many of our competitors don’t use advanced framing. For example on an 8’ wide by 8’ tall wall with a window, as shown in the photos, advanced framing reduces the amount of extraneous wood by 18%. Wood is a poor thermal insulator, so replacing extra wood with insulation can result in big energy savings. Furthermore, advanced framing reduces the amount of wood we need to purchase, so we pass those savings on to you.
